Holiday time...

I'm sorry I have not written here for a long time, work pressure has been unbelievable.  The good news for me is that I have ten days of holiday coming up and I plan to do some mountain biking in les arcs, france.  I do not really want to have a rigid timetable and I have found a hostel in bourg-saint-maurice which is cheap and looks really chilled and is apparently an ideal base as the funicular railway runs up to les arcs every 1/2 hour and is very economical.  So I'm off next week and consequentally I will still not be posting here.  Maybe I'll post some photos on my return.

The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay

Recently I was fortunate to stumble upon Bryce Courtenay's novel, "The Power of One" which charts the coming of age of a young man in apartheid South Africa.  Through his eyes we experience the injustice of the regime and the suffering it caused.  Through much adversity and small triumphs Peekay develops his own sense of right and wrong which is quite alien to the ruling regime in his country.

This is a deeply moving book, beautifully written and a definite page turner.  There is a follow up novel, Tandia, which further develops the characters in The Power of One.
